When in nursing school, studying is simply a large part of your life. These six tips can keep you from feeling overwhelmed during your study sessions and occasional all nighters.
You should try to study at least a little everyday to prevent it from building up. If this happens you are much more likely to get overwhelmed, and you will not be able to retain as much information.
Understand How You Learn
Everyone has different ways they learn best. To make your study sessions more effective, you should implement these personalized tactics. For example, flashcards are a great tool for some people to memorize things quickly. Not everyone learns this way though, and if you know that flashcards aren’t your thing you should try something else.
If They Give You a Study Guide, Use It
From my experience, if a professor gives you a study guide, then chances are things in it will be on the test.
Focus On What Was Taught In Class
If you are torn between studying what was in the textbook and what was taught in class, then you should almost always study the professor’s class material. The only exception is if the lecturer or teacher’s assistant tells you otherwise.
You will get tired way faster if you don’t take regular breaks while studying, and after you get tired you won’t be able to retain as much information. Scheduling breaks allows you to study for longer periods of time.
Make Sure to Still Take Care of Yourself
In order to best use your study time, you need to make sure that you are still taking care of yourself. It is important to maintain healthy sleeping and eating habits even when you are stressed out about an exam. This includes sleeping for at least eight hours a night and eating a healthy diet.
