Why You Should Consider Becoming an ER Nurse

Emergency Department

Whether you are just out of nursing school and are looking for your first assignment or  are simply trying to change up your work environment, working in the emergency room has probably crossed your mind. Although it is one of the most stressful nursing positions, it is also one of the most rewarding. Here are three reasons why you should consider becoming an ER nurse.

  1. It’s Exciting

No two days in the ER are the same. One day you could see a once in a lifetime medical fenomenon, and the next day you could see nothing out of the ordinary. This makes work very exciting, especially if you don’t like having a set routine. This job isn’t for everyone though, as it is often a stressful environment and you are very likely to be on call. This is an excellent place to gain a lot of experience for those who don’t mind this, however.

  1. You Get the Opportunity to Learn

As was just mentioned, you could see almost anything in the emergency room. This gives you more chances to learn on the job than you would get in many other positions. If you are looking to broaden your experience then this is a great way to do so.

  1. You May Feel As If You Are Helping More People

If you are tired of your daily routine, work environment, or even just your position then switching to the ER may be the way to move your career in the right direction. Seeing more severe cases, or just more patients in general, may make you feel as if your work is more meaningful to you. Although every nurse helps many people and makes a positive impact on their communities, switching to this area may make you feel as if you are making a greater impact. This feeling is often all it takes to cure your burnout and get your old spark back.
